In recent years, the studies on glacial geomorphology in Japanese mountains have been enhanced by not only Japanese scientists but also foreign scientists. New methods and concepts to reconstruct former glaciation are developing in the world now, and these results were summarized by a number of papers and textbooks published recently. On the contrary to these, it is also evident that many arguments and various debates have been appeared. The Association Japanese Geographers, considering the importance of the problems on the Quaternary glaciation in Japan and the potential of the geographical community to realize it, has made a opportunity to elucidate problems to be solved and scope of actual studies should be done.
